It's bittersweet to be celebrating Christi's birthday this weekend. Yesterday, on her birthday, two fellow neuroblastoma fighters earned their Angel wings. Their parents are preparing for funerals while we're celebrating Christi's bday. This disease is horrible and unjunst.

The beautiful nurse at Mercy had a sprinkled doughnut with a candle on it waiting for Christi at the hospital early this morning (so sweet). Before we left this morning, Christi provided Shayne with some training tips for the duathalon. She informed him, "It's just math." (He should stick to the inside lane on the curves and then he'd beat Eric.) After a four hour blood transfusion, we arrived at the park where Shayne had just crossed the finish line. She learned that Eric beat Daddy by 13 minutes. Congratulations sweet Webby!! Shayne joked that Eric took the inside lane while they ran together so that must be why he won (hee hee). Hopefully, this was good training for Eric's big 100 mile race coming up in Michigan. We thank Chrsiti's generous supporters for helping Eric achieve his incredible $5,000 fundraising goal for the CNCF (Children's Neuroblastoma Cancer Fund).

During her transfusion today she finished up the piggybank she's been secretely working all week. Last year Christi accidently broke Shayla's beloved piggy bank from the U.S. Mint. (It's glued together, looks quite tacky, but is still on display in Shayla's room.) Christi felt horrible about it and when she found a craft book in the library showing how to make a paper mache' piggy bank she knew she wanted to make it and give it to Shayla on her birthday so she would have a present to open up too. This gal has a big heart - and the craft project turned out lovely! Shayla will love it!

Our prayers are with the families of Noah (days shy of turning three,) and Jackson who pitched and hit in last week's baseball game, forever ten). May God grant their families strength and comfort.
