Fresh from the Cabbage Patch

This was the very first photo I ever took of Christi in the hospital. She was just one day old and I wanted to creat "cabbage patch baby" announcements to let our family and friends know this precious little one safely arrived.

This morning in church our pastor asked us "When you pray, do you ask God to do something ONLY He can do, so that ONLY He can get the glory when He does it?" (as opposed to our works, which are always suspect, because we have a vested interest in them). I thought of Christi, and prayed for her...think of the glory it would bring to Him if she were to get well! And yet, her very life brings glory to Him...she is such a bright light, even now, and her enthusiasm and kindness have touched people everywhere, even in her weakness. My prayer continues to be for you all, that God's strength will be made perfect in your weakness, that His love will fill you, and His peace surround you, no matter WHAT. I wish so that you didn't have to face this...I wish Christi could be in school and struggling with the "normal" things 9 year old girls deal with. I wish you were all home together, enjoying one another, and that Shayla didn't have to deal with such tough issues at such a young age. Oh, how I wish...but I do know that God's grace is sufficient for ANYTHING, because we have a great High Priest in Heaven who suffered every frailty we have, and He understands every weakness, yet as One who is perfect and lives forever to save us and intercede for us. When the time comes for Christi to leave this life and enter the next one, Jesus himself will be there to guide her and intercede for her. He has promised that he went before us to prepare a special place for just for us. SOmeone shared with us, when my brother died a few weeks ago, that the place God would prepare for him would include music and a place where people would drop by to visit, because those were some of the most important things in my brother's life. Can you imagine what Christi's part of Heaven will be? Books and friends and probably a piano--maybe even kitties?? She'll probably be advising the angels about how to help this person or that, and what do do for her family! She will be the same Christi, and in the time frame of Heaven it will be but a blink of an eye before her family is reunited. And meanwhile, she will be with her grandpa and other family...maybe she'll even get to know our Nathan! I'm continuing to pray, too, for her physical comfort here on earth, and for more quality time with her family. I know this is beyond hard, and I grieve with you and for you...
