Giggles

Once again Christi’s morphine has been increased. This has helped with her pain; however, now she’s downright “goofy”. “I’m just having a giggly kind of day,” she said early this morning. Her emotions have been high today, going from extreme highs to extreme lows. Overall, she had her best day in the past 14 days!! She actually sat up in a chair and played a computer game for a while today. Although not without pain, she was awake for about 6 hours today. Additionally, she ate more today than in the past 14 days combined (popcorn, Chinese food, cereal, strawberries, rice krispie square and orange juice).

During radiation she’s decided I should read a book over the intercom to her instead of sing. (Hmmm? Should my feelings be hurt? Hee hee.) The three of us are really enjoying the book we started today- “Flush” by Carl H. (the author of “Hoot”). Tomorrow will be her last day of radiation.

This morning I called to check in on Shayla before she left for school. She’s doing fine, but refused to talk with me. When Shayne called tonight, he experienced the same treatment. This all must be terribly difficult on her; I know it is for us. Regardless, Shayla is back at school, gymnastics and dance class. Tomorrow starts back to religion classes.

Today I finally pushed Shayne out of this hospital room to go for a run. He ran down to the art museum to see where “Rocky” has been returned. We told our little advocate, Christi, that she helped get him back. Now – we just need to get Pluto back!

Her blood counts were not drawn by mistake this morning. Tomorrow’s LDH will be instrumental in decision making. Our prayer request is for a lowered LDH. I will assume that she will need yet another platelet transfusion too.

It did my heart so much good to see that photo of Christi sitting at the edge of her bed and eating. Praise God - He and Christi make a darn good team. I pray for many, many more giggly, goofy, wakeful days ahead. I will also pray overtime for her LDH to be MUCH lower tomorrow.

Miss Christi...you simply amaze me, chickie!

how lovely to see those photos of a smiling, EATING Christi!! I am so glad she had a better day today. i have had such a sad feeling in my chest the last few days...like something is terribly wrong - and it just went away to see those pics! how lovely it is to see her smile! I pray for a lower LDH for tomorrow, and for NO PAIN for your precious little girl. I pray also for Shayla, and hope that she can find the words she is so obviously struggling to say. poor little girl. she must be so confused and afraid.

holding your hand as always...

Hello there sweet Christi girl! Sounds like today was a bit smoother, considering. Love seeing that grin on your face while you're eating...is that cereal?

Angela, the first post you made regarding the brain radiation, my friend Carolyn (from our parish) e-mailed me and said it brought back instant memories from when her Vincent had total body radiation at CHOP for neuroblastoma and she would record herself reading a book that was played for him during treatment. Such special moms you are.

Shayne...have to admit, you make a MUCH better "Rocky". : ) Yes Christi, you helped bring Rocky back, and you have also brought many people back to God. I don't know if you will ever know the hearts and lives that you have touched throughout the world. Watch out astronomers!!! Pluto may be on its way back!

I'll continue praying for Shayla during this adjustment time....she too is feeling so torn. ...could just be withdrawl from the - hmmmm....what was that Nintendo type game thing she was playing??!
(BIG SMILE) And intense prayer for decent results to help with decisions.

sleep tight Thomas Team. xoxo

love, sylvia

I'm glad that Christi was up and eating and generally more comfortable than she has been. It's nice to hear that she felt "goofy", even though it's caused by the pain meds. I'm sure that Shayla was happy to know you called, even though she didn't feel like talking. It's likely a lot for her to take in right now, and maybe that's her only way to get her feelings out. Hopefully she'll feel more like talking on the phone in a day or two. My prayers remain with your family, and especially so for a lowered LDH, Christi's comfort, and for little Shayla's feelings.
