A Hamster named Bunny

Tonight landed Christi in the emergency room, but before I can tell you that story I must tell you this story...

So you may know that we have a dwarf bunny named Hamster. Now we have two dwarf hamsters one of which is named Bunny. This is all exactly how Shayla wants it and she couldn't be more pleased with the situation. Christi on the otherhand is way jealous that her sister got more pets. Her sobbing response to the news that Shayla got hamsters was "Why doesn't anyone believe me that I want a Siamese kitten". Of course Christi LOVES the hamsters and Angela thinks they are adorable too.(Proof-I saw her holding one today).

Tonight Christi was very worked up by the fact that Shayla got new pets as well as it was time for her to get her shot. Her anxiety magnified several symptoms that she had off and on the entire day: Shortness of breath, pain from mouth sores, and rapid heart rate. It was decided for our peace of mind that we would take Christi into the emergency room to be examined and have her counts checked. So Angela's Friday night on the town was spent with her good friend Becky (nurse) at Mercy Hospital with Christi. Nothing was found of any interest. Just an ANC of zero-no immune system. This just means more days of shots...poor thing.

Shayne

Poor kid! I'm praying for her. So when are you getting a new kitty? I've got a couple rats you can have. You could name them Dog and Cat. Angela, I'm so proud of you for holding the hamsters. And just so you know, rats are less likely to bite than hamsters. I'm just saying.

I love you guys and my prayers are with you.

Hello dear Thomas Team! Oh, how darling that you have mis-matched Hamster & Bunny. You crack me up Shayla! What is the other hamster's name? Puppy? Pony?? :-) Christi, I'm SO sorry you have to deal with these stupid shots. I know you hate them so much, but they are going to help you while your counts are so low. If I could take a couple of them for you I would!! Instead, all I can do is send you my love and support. I second your wish for a Siamese kitten (sorry mom and dad!) They are SO LOUD!! Siamese sure love to talk a lot. Christi, see if you can get your mom & dad to show you a little video story on CNN's website - a Siamese mama cat was nursing a litter of PUPPIES! It was very cute and right up your alley.

Take care, dear ones!! Thinking of you every day!!

Are we allowed to start a 'Buy Christi a Kitten' fund?

:-D

I'm praying for all of you, as is my extended church family in frozen Maine.

Still zapping up the prayers for Christie...just a thought, if the shots are so terribly painful I'm sure I read on another site that you can get some sort of cream that deadens the skin for injections - I'm sure this has been explored already but thought I'd mention it, poor little thing must dread those shots. Prayers, prayers prayers...

I know that when my mom had to do shots at home (she has breast cancer), they prescribed EMLA cream to numb the spot beforehand. Maybe this would help Christi with her shots? Putting it on may even have a placebo effect and ease her mind a bit. Just a suggestion...I hope tomorrow is better! You are always in my prayers.

You need to post a picture of all the pets together. It's starting to sound intersting. So glad Christi didn't have to stay in the hospital.

Dear Shayne,

I hate hickman's but is that an answer for Christi?

No more needles??

I am sad to read she hates it so much. Maybe we should send her a pet cat.

I know there is a family in Canada who has a dog they could spare you!! (Mr. Scrupper)

Kidding.

Prayers!

Love,
Mary

I'm sorry to hear that Christi is having such an emotional end of the week. Being sick takes such a toll on these little ones.
In regard to the shots, any chance that you could convince her to inject herself? We gave Eden a lot of independance (flushing her own tubes, removing her own dressing and choosing the spot for her shot each day) and it did help to make it easier for her. Maybe if Christi felt up to learning something like that (such a big girlk it would take to learn something like that!) it might not be so traumatic?
I'm glad that Shayla has such a vivid sense of humor. The names of her animals are GREAT! She's such a beautiful girl, you must be very proud of her.

Love from New Albany,
Shelly Adams

I Too think you should get a simiee cat. After all they are quite smart just like you are and i think it would be a great match for you i have a freind involed in simieese resuse you should cheek them out they fly or drive the cat right to you. My freind got hers form Tn and we live in Ma. You could be helping a cat get a good home and getting your very own simmmies in one.

I pray you feel better soon. I pray for a merical if anyone should get you should. I pray for you seval times a day

Ok, Shayla - I'm sorry... I'm not a fan of the little furry things with tails that squeak... but you holding them does look awfully cute!

And Christi... just a caution about siamese cats... they are beautiful (I'm a huge cat fan) BUT they have one of the most annoying meows! If you could find a cat that whines, a siamese would be it! So... I would go for the friendliness factor and tabbies are the best for that - super duper cuddlers :-)

And as for the whole pet issue - I could be totally of base here - but I think Shayla might need her pets especially for times when you (Christi) have to go the hospital. I think her pets make her feel a little better and/or comforted when you're not home and not feeling well. So maybe look at it that way if you can.

I hope you're having a great weekend and feeling better all the time.

Much love,
Eliza
