A very long day

The girls are tucked away on 4 south at CHOP-this is not the oncology floor. There are 67 oncology patients in the hospital tonight-we just need to find a cure! Shari is at the RMH and will relieve Angela in the morning, meanwhile, I will be flying from Cleveland at 12:30 to relieve Shari. (special thanks to all who offered to drive, fly, give up airline miles, or otherwise transport me to Philadelphia. I was very moved by everyone's offer of assistance.) Our dear friend Lisa has made all of my travel arrangements-Yeah Continental.

Christi is feeling more comfortable tonight, mostly due to the morphine. She received her Topotecan tonight as well so lets pray that it is doing a number on the disease. Angela and Shari are hoarse from reading to Christi non stop today. Even under all of this duress Christi needs her mind stimulated-what a wonder she is......

Liz Scott mother of the famous Alex Scott was in on the action today and apparently relieved Angela and Shari while they checked into the RMH. She is pictured with Shari in the photo.

Shayla seems to be taking this all in stride at the moment. It was her 100th day of first grade (photo). That was a much more interesting topic to her than was the fact that I was leaving her. My mom will be quartebacking her care. Those who are seeking time with Shayla during Shaylauary (birthday is Feb 12th) please coordinate with Joan. She is in great hands with Mrs. Rombach the school day as well (reminder-Christi was in Mrs. R's class when she was DX, when Christi was in isolation Mrs. R. would stop by and tutor Christi, after we went to NYC she kept in constant contact with Christi with wonderful greeting cards-she is a selfless saint http://www.christithomas.com/images/MVC-005F.jpg)

That's all for now. I promise to have Angela back in touch with her keyboard tomorrow.

Shayne

Shayne, I'm so glad to hear that you're on your way to Philly soon. I know Christi and Angela will be delighted to see the man in their life. :) I'm relieved to hear Christi is getting pain meds, and I pray the chemo is killing cancer cells left and right as we speak.

Christi is such a strong little girl, and God gave her the perfect parents for this fight. We'll keep praying here -- I know God is bigger than this awful disease. I'm glad to hear she's still interested in being read to -- what an amazing, gifted girl you have, with such a thirst for knowledge. No matter what happens, NB is not winning this fight, she is.

I'm checking the blog often and so, so appreciative of your efforts to keep it updated. Please do let us know when you get an inpatient address.

much love from Nashville,
Spring

I've been checking up on Christi through the internet since I met her two years ago at Heidelberg's Lemonade Stand. Hearing her read to our class brought me to tears. She is an amazing girl and has so much to offer this world! She and your whole family are in my prayers. I email friends and family with updates and with prayer requests for your little girl. I have moved to new jersey and am only a few hours from philly so if you need anything please email me (johnston_melissa@hotmail.com) I know I havent met you - angela - but I have had the honor of meeting your husband and your two daughters and would be happy to help in any way possible!

I pray that your next post will have some encouraging news!

I came to your page after about 3 other people's carepages (one person mentioning another child and that child's care page mentioning another child and that child's carepage mentioning your child.. whew) but what I want to know is Why does this happen to the sweetest kids? probably because the rest of the people wouldnt be able to handle it with such strong courage. Christi's story just breaks the heart. Such a darling. Praying for a miracle.

I find it amazing how people find themselves here. I posted a message about Christi on a message board I post on which led someone to post about her on a message board they went to which led to me getting this email asking me to pass it along to Christi! What a small world!

Dear Christi,

Hey! I'm from another board, a horse-racing one, but I heard about your story and I just wanted to send my wishes your way. I'm more confident than I've ever been you'll get better, more money has been donated to cancer research than ever before, through Afleet Alex and Alex's Lemonade Stand. You may know Alex Scott's story, her lemonade stands have raced thousands of dollars for cancer...as for Afleet Alex, he's carrying on Alex's project, and a portion of his souveniers/race earnings/ stud fees are being donated to the cause, too. That's quite a bit of money! Hang in there, I'll keep praying for you.

Best Wishes,
Lauren

Hey Angela, Shane, Christi, and Shayla,
I am so happy I can finally leave a comment for all of you. I have been following Christi's story since she was a featured kid on MACS so many years ago. I remember when my daughter saw her picture (she is 7) she said, "she can't be sick, she is too pretty". She is one beautiful, truly inspiring little girl. I have sent the girls cards over the years and many many prayers for all of you. I love and care for Christi as if I have known her personally all of this time. As soon as I heard the news of her cancer progression, I went to many caringbridge websites asking for prayers. Many responded and that made me happy. So, please know that so many prayers are going up for Christi and for all of you. Thank you so much for posting so regularly. I check everyday and pray several times a day for Christi. Hang in there and may God give all of you strength, courage, and much hope. Take Care

Ive been silently following Christi's journey for some time now, and I was sooo sad when i read the previous posts. But now there is some hope ;) Christi you keep on fighting!! You are a beautiful, strong, and determined girl. Anyone would be lucky and fortunate to be with you and know you and your family. If there is anything I can help with (anything at all) just ask. I live in the chicagoland area...if there is anything i can do for the Thomas family I will do it. I know and understand the pain cancer brings to families. Once cancer has entered your world you are NEVER the same.
Please know that there are people all over the world ready to help. Hugs and prayers sent out to the Thomas Team.

Dear Thomas Team

Thinking about you all day today. Walking through the grocery store, Christi's beautiful face would just pop into my mind and I'd wonder if she'd like a certain type of cookie, chocolate milk etc... I truly believe this is Gods way of helping us to remember to pray and thank him for bringing such a bright light into our hearts. HOping and praying for all of you tonight and wishing I could hug each and every one of you.

Love,

Stacey
