Michigan

As Shayne drives us home now in heavy traffic, I'm typing (trying to multitask and taking a break from re-reading my exam responses). Despite Shay Shay's refusal to wash the Ohio State tattoo off her face, we took off Thursday afternoon for "wolverine territory" - a mini-vacation with the Cooks (Christi's "Webby") at Alicia's parents' place in Michigan. Houghton Lake was absolutely lovely and we had wonderful days spent together. We are blessed with great friends!

At one point, I said to Shayne, "Christi would have absolutely loved it up here - jet skiing, reading, swimming, boating, dogs, great food." Shayla piped in with, "And don't forget about playing nonstop with me!" Oh, she's so right! It immediately reminded me of how much she must miss Christi too. One of the last things we did with Christi in August of 2006 was spend a weekend in Michigan with the Cooks. As this time of year gets pretty challenging, this weekend confirmed it. I must forget about what I was doing two years ago at this time. It's so hard!
Eric played tennis in high school. Shayla's now sporting her first tennis racket. She enjoyed trying to hit the ball back and forth with Webby. Thanks, Eric & Alicia!!

You were in my neck of the woods. I would have loved to meet you. Unfortunately, we didn't go to Houghton Lake this past weekend. Michigan has a ton of great vacation getaways. I highly recommend Higgins Lake (just a little north of Houghton Lake). Shayla would love Great Wolf Lodge near Traverse City, and Mackinaw Island too. You can travel the Island on either bikes or Horses.
