OSU President
The event held at Ballreigh's potato chip factory yesterday was lovely! Shayla enjoyed having a chip factory tour with Brutus and about five other people (very cool). Most of all she enjoyed eating the warm chips as they fell out of the machine!
I had two highlights:
1.) Finally meeting the President of the World's Largest Institution - Dr. E. Gorden Gee.
2.) Winning the $100.00 OSU scholarship for my essay I entered in their essay contest.
I was able to express my sympathy to Dr. Gee on the loss of his 31 year old son-in-law in a car accident in Philadelphia. He said his wife is a doctor so she deals with things in two ways. One as a doctor and then as a grieving widow. I told him that his whole family has been in my prayers. I told him the next time I'd see him would be at graduation. He told me to invite him to my graduation party, he'd come. (What a hoot!)

The Great Buckeye State is the Best Place to Live
With Lake Erie glistening in the north, rich farm lands encompassing the center, and the Ohio River flowing in the south, our Buckeye state offers something wonderful for everyone. The uniqueness of Ohio can be seen with its vast differences in urban, rural and small town settings, offering many choices and making the state an ideal location to live and work. Ohio is perfect for families and for singles, Ohio has it all!
Whether one prefers warm or cool climates, Ohio provides variety. Skiing destinations are available in the winter, while summertime in Ohio bursts with colorful festivals and county fairs. Fall transports gorgeous colors as trees gently drop their leaves while springtime brings beautiful weather for fishing or gardening.
Additionally, each region offers something different. Northern Ohio contains Ohio’s playground. Cedar Point, in Sandusky, is consistently voted the World’s Best Amusement Park while Cleveland boasts the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In Central Ohio, Columbus offers COSI, the Columbus Museum of Art and the Columbus Zoo. Sporting teams include the Bluejackets, the Crew and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Amish Country conjures images of the plain and simple life while the State Fair showcases the latest in modern ingenuity. Southern Ohio offers recreational opportunities with rolling hills, scenic biking and hiking trails. Each region of Ohio is unique! All are special, all are Ohio!
Historical aspects also make Ohio a state to celebrate. One can explore the sites of eight former U.S. Presidents, tour the Underground Railroad Museum and visit one of Ohio’s outdoor drama venues. Additionally, with over 75 institutions of higher education, the Buckeye state offers many degrees providing individuals with personal and professional advancement. Whether you’re looking for sports, food, seasonal change, history, or the arts, if you live in Ohio, you are close by!

Happy 9 1/2 to Shayla,

The essay is great, Angela! Cograts on your win!
I'm so glad to hear you had fun at the factory. We don't have Ballreichs here in NY (or if we do, I'm too oblivious to notice!) Having warm chips sounds great though!
That's it! I'm selling my house in Florida and headin' to OHIO! (I wish!) What a lovely essay Angela. Congratulations on winning!
For the past couple of weeks I have been reading about Christi's journey. Today I came to the entry from when you went to see "Wicked". I can't think up any better way to explain how Christi's story has touched my life than lyrics from that musical.
"I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow"...
"It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine"
God bless you.
