C.T. $1,000 Heidelberg Scholarship

Although bittersweet, it is with pleasure that I announce this year’s $1,000 Heidelberg scholarship recipient. It will go to Jim. When I called him this afternoon to inform him of the committee’s decision, he was very appreciative. I choked up and told myself, “This is the 3rd year you’ve called these kids, get over it,” but I couldn’t help think how I’d rather be sending Christi to college if only I could have that chance instead. But, since I can’t, I’m glad we can help others with their education where Christi said she would go “for her first college”.

Jim is an Early Childhood Education major and a member of Heidelberg’s basketball team. He’s very involved in Campus Fellowship and the Men’s Bible Study. In the summer he works at a children’s summer camp. He wrote, “I have been inspired by a very sweet and loving girl named Christi Thomas.” His letters of recommendation were glowing. He wrote, “Christi has been a testament to God because of her impact on my life and because of the joy she brought to others. In Mark 10:13-14, Mark describes God’s view of children and the reason that children like Christi are so precious to me. I can only hope to inspire others as she has inspired me.”

Jim has agreed to go to dinner with us following the Awards Program at Heidelberg. We are looking forward to meeting and getting to know him
then.

Additionally, we awarded four $100 “book scholarships” to: Anna, Brittany, Matt & Morgan. They were also amazing applicants and we want to share Christi’s love of books by helping with their book bills.

Christi touched the lives of so many. Never would I have dreamed that years after I starting praying for a miracle cure for a little girl on the other side of the world that I'd be so profoundly touched and changed, for the better, by her journey and that of the Thomas Team.

God Bless you all and thank you for letting us walk this journey with you.

Good night from Australia.

Michelle

I had left a comment yesterday to congratulate the winner of the scholarship but I must not have sent it correctly (since I don't see it here). Anyway, CONGRATS to the winner! This is so awesome that this is done...Christi is surely smiling!
